Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy

Our programs prepare students to be leaders in clinical practice, education and research. We offer two Master of Science education programs: Entry-Level (no experience) and BS/BA RRT to MSRT Degree Advancement.

  • The Entry-Level Program requires no prior healthcare experience, is held on-campus and with a completion rate of just two (2) years, graduates can quickly start their career in respiratory therapy, helping patients with their illnesses and conditions.
  • The Degree Advancement program designed for practicing registered respiratory therapists, is 100% online and after 20 graduate credit hours of respiratory therapy courses, offers three different leadership tracks: Operational, Education, and Research. This is 2–3-year online program allows practitioners to continue providing healthcare for their patients while simultaneously earning an advanced degree.

2023-2024 AARC Apex Recognition Award

The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston Department of Respiratory Therapy in the School of Health Professions (SHP) recently earned the American Association for Respiratory Care Apex Recognition Award. To receive this highly sought after recognition, respiratory therapy programs must demonstrate best practices in the profession.

Our SHP Department of Respiratory Therapy was one of only 29 recipients across the United States for the recognition in 2023-2024. The Apex Award distinguishes programs for their commitment to excellence in professional development and the education of respiratory therapists to deliver the highest quality of care and elevate the respiratory therapy profession. Our team has worked hard to provide this outstanding level of education to our students while also seeking out opportunities to grow our program and the profession.
